Library Assistant Opening

(guaranteed 12 hours up to 15 hours per week @ $17.00/hour) We are seeking a motivated & socially outgoing worker with a high school diploma or equivalent. This job you will be expected to interact with the public of all ages, so communication skills are a must. In this position you will be expected to assist library patrons with readers advisory, be able to research and answer reference questions, check in and out materials, be able to assist with photocopying & computer usage. Other requirements include being able to alphabetize and have a basic knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System to aid in shelving and locating materials. Must be able to perform basic clerical work, including being able to operate a computer. Assisting with programming for all ages is a must in all stages: development, planning and implementation. In this position you will work mostly with children when it comes to programming, including running the after school programs on Wednesday afternoons. Currently work hours are Monday: 4pm – 7pm, Wednesdays: 2pm – 7pm during the school year (4pm – 7pm, when school is not in session) & Saturdays: 10:00am – 4:00 pm). Hours may vary based on various other variables.

Programs

The library hosts many events throughout the year. Here is a list of regularly occuring events the library may hold. There are other special events the library will host as well, which you can watch for on our events page.

 

Reoccuring Events:

After School Programs:

Every Wednesday that school is in session, we will have AWE Club (After school Wednesday Entertainment Club) from 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm. All school age children are welcome to attend the program. Once the program is over, per library policy, all children under the age of 9 will need to have a way to get home, or be accompanied by an adult or responsible persons over the age of 14. Arrangements for that should be made BEFORE attending the programs.

These programs offer many different things from crafts, to games, to STEM & more!

Toddler Programs - (Tyke Time)

Tyke Time will be held the first and third Saturday of each Month (beginning St. Patrick's Day weekend through December) There will be no Tyke Time in January, February, and the first Saturday of March). Tyke time will run from 9:30 am - 10:00 am. This program is geared for babies through early school age, but all children are welcome. All children who attend this should and will be accompanied by an adult or responsible persons over the age of 14. During Tyke Time, we read stories, sing songs, and do an activity with the children.

Adult Programs:

The library offers Senior Moments every Friday from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm (except for holiday's in which we are closed). Senior Moments is a program for adults of any age to come have a social hour where we chat, color, or whatever form of entertainment we have to keep us busy. We are always open to new suggestions. We do offer other adult programming throughout the year, those events will be posted on our Facebook Page and in the New London Journal.
